Trainer Tips: How to Jumpstart a Healthy 2019
Happy New Year from Wattage!
Out with the old, and in with the new. New Years is a time to reflect on the past year and move forward with positive changes for yourself. Did you reach your 2018 fitness goals and resolutions? If so, congrats! You did it! Let’s set some new goals for 2019. If not, what got in your way? Did you set unrealistic goals? Or maybe you needed more motivation? No matter the reason, it’s time to hit the reset button and try again!
We asked our trainers for tips to help attain your 2019 fitness resolutions and become a healthier and more fit version of yourself! Here’s what they had to say:
Abi: "Break up your goals into smaller more measurable goals."
Brittany: "No need to call it a New Year's Resolutions. Call them goals, split them up into smaller goals, and then start setting intentions for each of your goals. Remember, fitness and nutrition shouldn't feel like a chore. Make it fun. Try new recipes, experiment with new exercises/fitness classes/workouts, and workout with a friend! It should all be enjoyable (except on that last sprint when it feels impossible, but then you'll feel even better at the end. ;))"
Emily: "To succeed big, go small. Set yourself up for success by making just one or two resolutions at most, rather than a long ‘wishlist’, so that you can give it the attention needed to accomplish. Small, doable steps and keep it simple. Be persistent. Don’t give up so easily. Be patient with yourself and the process, but be intent on your goals."
Here's some additional advice from Emily via her Instagram @em_mckean:
Kyle:" New Year, New Sleep! Being well rested and having a good night sleep each night can have profound improvements in your life. Sleep is extremely important to our health and quality of life each day. Below are a few ways sleep can positively and negatively affect your life short term and ultimately long term as well. It’s recommended by the CDC that adults get at least 7 or more hours of sleep each night. Lets leave the bad night sleeps in 2018 and say hello to the great night sleeps in 2019!
Good nights rest can:
Improve concentration & productivity
Reduce inflammation in your body
Improve your memory
Help your tissues repair after workouts
Poor nights rest can:
Impair attention & problem solving skills
Increase cortisol (stress hormone) in the body
Stimulate cravings for unhealthy foods
Put you at risk for heart disease & stroke
Ways to upgrade your sleep at night:
Reduce blue light exposure before bed (phones, tv, computers)
Try to wake up and go to sleep at the same time most days
Don’t eat meals late at night
Exercise during the day "
Getting fit isn't always easy, but hopefully with these tips and tricks you can jump-start a healthy new year!
